Plan B now available in your local drugstore (hopefully) and online

After a long long looong battle with the FDA for the over-the-counter approval of Emergency Contraception (EC or Plan B), it’s now available behind the counter for women 17 and older. There’s lots to be said about why it’s a problem that EC is not available without a prescription for women under 17, but that’s for another post.

What’s cool is that you can now not only get Plan B at a drugstore, but you can also find it online. This is especially great news for women who 1) live in areas in which either pharmacists are hostile to contraception (also an issue for another post) or 2) women who live in small towns in rural areas where the pharmacist is also the judge and is also a family friend. It could potentially be useful for teens too, since it’s difficult to check ID online. Either way, very cool.
